Make Your Own Machine Custom Design: A Guide For Beginners.

Custom machine design has been a buzzword in manufacturing for some time. What is machine custom design? It uses computer-aided design (CAD) software combined with additive manufacturing technology to produce uniquely designed parts and products on demand. In other words, it is a way to create a part or product that has never been created before.

Manufacturers often need to produce new products to improve productivity, reduce downtime, increase output, or improve machine precision. Custom machine builds or modifications may be required if the current (or non-existing) machine does not have the required functionality or is not optimized for operation.

YQUNIQUE has extensive experience in New Product Machine Development (NPMD) for electric power, new energy, new energy vehicles, and industrial production. It provides OEM enterprises with new and innovative production equipment design and construction services.

What you need to know about machine custom design?

Machine custom design is the process of creating a machine specific to the needs of a customer or company. This can be done by modifying an existing machine or designing an entirely new machine from scratch. It is a growing field as more and more businesses are looking for ways to optimize machines for specific tasks.

There are many factors to consider when undertaking a machine custom design project, including the customer’s specific needs, the environment in which the machine will be used, the desired level of performance, safety requirements and budget.

An experienced machine designer will be able to take all of these factors into consideration and create a machine that meets customer requirements.

Implementation method of YQUNIQUE custom machine design and construction projects.

YQUNIQUE employs a four-phase project implementation approach that provides an ongoing open dialogue between YQUNIQUE and its clients. This enables clients to control the disbursement of funds and the direction of the project.

By implementing this process, we minimize financial risk, ensure project success, and complete projects on time with a high level of service and customization.

Machine Custom Design four-phase

Phase 1: Contact and Planning

At first, our technical engineers work with customers to determine the requirements for custom machines. Our team will prepare conceptual layouts and functional specifications for client review. Once you accept the conceptual layout and functional specifications, YQUNIQUE provides budgeted cost estimates and preliminary project schedules for the entire project.

We provide a timeline for the design, fabrication and installation phases of the project. If necessary, an estimate of the time required for start-up, commissioning and operator training is also included.

In addition to providing cost estimates, we also advise on detailed mechanical and electrical engineering (Phase 2) based on client-approved conceptual layout and functional specifications.

By spending only a small investment in the first stage of conceptual design, we give the client control over capital expenditures and the design itself, rather than being limited to the design and a firm bid price, which often includes overpaying for unnecessary contingencies.

Phase 2: Design and Development

In the second stage, our engineers prepare mechanical and electrical components, along with bills of materials and detailed fabrication drawings, based on the first stage approved conceptual layout and functional specifications.

Throughout the design process, we review drawings and designs with the client to ensure consistency for the project. Before delivery for purchase and manufacture, YQUNIQUE will ensure that the design is acceptable to the customer, minimizing any changes in the manufacturing process and additional costs to the customer. .

Upon completion of the second stage of the process, the customer will be provided with a firm quotation for the purchase, manufacture and programming of the custom machine. We have a budgeted cost estimate for the installation and start-up of the custom machine.

Phase 3: Construction and Development

This stage is the procurement, manufacture and assembly of custom machines. In this phase, we develop PLC and HMI applications to control the custom machine that uses the mechanical and electrical designs and revised functional specifications prepared during the Phase 2 process.

This process requires machine runoff and factory acceptance testing with the customer. After accepting a custom machine, we will provide the customer with a cost estimate for the installation, start-up and commissioning of the custom machine. We can also provide estimates for operator and maintenance staff training.

Phase 4: Installation and Startup

This is the install, start, and debug phase of the process. Electromechanical installation services can be provided by YQUNIQUE, allowing flexibility in scope and client fees. If required, YQUNIQUE can provide installation assistance as well as start-up, commissioning and training.

A complete documentation package is provided when the customer accepts the machine. Documentation package includes complete drawing package in PDF and native format, PLC/HMI application, recommended spare parts list and operating manual.

Things to consider when building a machine

Building a machine involves many factors that need to be considered in order to create a successful product. The most important thing to remember is what the machine is for. Here are some important factors to consider when designing a machine:

Cost

Cost

Cost has always been a major consideration when designing a machine element or machine. The best machine design is one that helps obtain a finished product with all major functions and the highest quality at the lowest possible cost. Gone are the days of using expensive and bulky materials to manufacture machine elements.

High-Efficiency

High output and high efficiency

Early machines used to be heavy and consume a lot of electricity. The current trend is for full-featured machines to consume low power and provide high output in terms of the number of products manufactured. Some computer-controlled machines can manufacture components very quickly and efficiently.

Strength

Strength

A machine element or machine should be strong enough to withstand all the forces for which it was designed so as not to be damaged or permanently deformed during its service life. When designing a machine, the designer should consider the force machine can be applied and consider all relevant factors that may affect its life.

Stiffness or rigidity

Stiffness or rigidity

The machine shall have sufficient stiffness so that the machine or machine element will not deform beyond specified limits under the designed forces. If the deformation is too large, it may cause the failure of the machine components and the whole machine.

The benefits of customize machines

Custom machines offer many benefits over off-the-shelf options. When the machine is customized to your specifications, it can be optimized to exactly meet your needs.

A custom machine will also be more reliable than off-the-shelf options as it will be built using higher quality materials and components. And, because it’s designed for your business, it’s easier to use and less likely to break down.

Best of all, equipment built specifically for your needs will provide a great return on your investment

Improve efficiency   Improve efficiency

Custom machines are designed to meet business needs, which means they are more efficient than off-the-shelf options. An assembly line is successful when all parts move smoothly. Custom-designed equipment allows you to create products that solve your exact problem. Achieving maximum efficiency comes from evaluating the problem and designing a solution that works flawlessly every time.

Quick integration   Quick integration

You can often save labor costs by integrating tasks that would otherwise require multiple machines or employees into a single custom machine. Most machines have a primary purpose and are only suitable for the first few steps of processing. However, your business will require custom equipment where components or materials require advanced processes to produce unique results.

Customized equipment can be used with computer control. The process may involve specifications and physical details applied to components or materials. Sometimes, some machines allow workers to recreate the temperature or humidity of a specific environment and simulate conditions within a manufacturing plant.

Highest efficiency is achieved when your custom machine can be seamlessly integrated into your other equipment.

Assist in quality control   Assist in quality control

Custom machines can adapt to changing needs, whereas off-the-shelf machines are often less flexible. Production becomes completely uniform when you introduce custom machinery into the production line.

With custom equipment, you can expect the same output every time because these machines can perform the same tasks every shift without failing. Using a custom machine also minimizes errors, giving you more control over the outcome of your finished product.

Minimize errors and redo costs   Minimize errors and redo costs

Custom machines can help businesses increase productivity by streamlining processes and reducing downtime. Standard machines can only do so much because you can only use them for primary processing of specific materials. They have limitations that manual techniques sometimes cannot make up for. Therefore, when you need to produce products with high precision specifications, you need custom equipment.

With custom equipment, the process is simpler and you don’t have to spend as much time making improvements. You don’t have to worry about being unable to afford extra costs like wasted electricity and materials.
